A man has been hunting in the woods for sometime, and realizes it is getting dark. Knowing there is no way he can pick through the woods in the dark, he tries to find a place to stay.
The last rays of sunlight have sunk behind the horizon when he finally finds a cabin among the trees, and decides to see if anyone will let him in for the knight.
He knocks on the door and in creaks open. No one replies, and no one objects when he walks inside. He decides if people still lived in this house, which it looked like they didn’t, they would understand why he decided to stay the night.
He lights up the torches and candles with his pack of matches and fixes himself a meal in the kitchen. Though abandoned, the cabin has a homey feel and he feels comfortable right away. After he has eaten his fill, he puts the dishes in the sink and goes to the bedroom to get some rest before heading home in the morning.
The bedroom shocks him. All around the room are paintings, portraits done in horrifying detail of peoples faces. Some are grimacing, some a grinning, some are sneering, and some are outright glaring, all straight at him. He shivers with fear but knows the portraits can do nothing to him, no matter how creepy it is, so he lies down in the bed, faces the wall, and forces himself to fall asleep.
In the morning he awakes to an out-of-place brightness from what appears to be sunshine. When he turns around, he almost screams from the shock and fear.
There are no paintings in the room, only windows…
